A/Prof Taylor specialises in diagnosing and treating reflux and heartburn, offering assessments including endoscopy and functional testing. Care plans may include lifestyle changes, medication, or minimally invasive anti-reflux surgery, aiming to improve comfort and protect oesophageal health.

  • Anti-reflux Surgery

The oesophagus is a muscular passage which carries food from the mouth to the stomach. The lower oesophagal sphincter (LES) is a circular band of muscles at the lower end of the oesophagus that acts as a barrier between the oesophagus and the stomach.

  • Upper GI Endoscopy

Upper GI endoscopy, also known as Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) is a procedure to visually examine and treat problems in the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It is usually performed on an outpatient basis using an endoscope, which is a long, thin, flexible tube with a tiny video camera and light on the end. The high-quality picture from the endoscope is shown on a TV monitor and by adjusting the various controls on the endoscope, your doctor can safely guide the instrument to carefully examine the inner lining of your upper gastrointestinal system and treat certain abnormal conditions. In many cases, upper GI endoscopy is a more precise examination than X-ray studies.

  • 24HR pH/Impedance and Motility Testing

24HR pH/Impedance Testing is a diagnostic procedure to measure the amount of acid and non-acid reflux into the part of the digestive tract between the mouth and the stomach, which is known as the oesophagus, over a period of 24 hours.

  • Esophageal Manometry

Esophageal Manometry is a diagnostic test that evaluates the motility and muscle contractions of the esophagus, the tube that connects your throat to your stomach. It measures the pressure and coordination of esophageal muscles during swallowing.
